Lavčević Completes Redevelopment Works on the Žnjan Plateau in Split

date: June 2025

Lavčević has successfully completed the redevelopment and reconstruction of the Žnjan Plateau, one of the most significant urban regeneration and infrastructure projects undertaken in Split in recent decades. The ambitious development has transformed a previously underutilized coastal area into a modern public space dedicated to leisure, recreation, sports and cultural activities.

Construction works began in February 2024, with the renovated Žnjan Plateau officially opening to the public on 21 June 2025. The formal handover of the completed works took place on 30 September 2025. The project was carried out by Lavčević d.d. and Lavčević-inženjering, with the municipal company Žnjan d.o.o. acting as the contracting authority.

The redevelopment involved extensive construction and infrastructure works, including the improvement and expansion of beach areas, the construction of a waterfront promenade and cycling paths, an underground parking garage with 530 spaces, sports facilities, children's playgrounds and a range of supporting amenities.

One of the most distinctive architectural features of the new Žnjan Plateau is its outdoor amphitheater, designed to host cultural events and live performances. Its impressive steel dome, measuring 52 meters in diameter, represented one of the project's most technically demanding construction elements.

Special attention was given to landscaping, the creation of green spaces and the integration of the waterfront with the surrounding urban environment. The overall development includes plans for approximately 48,000 m² of landscaped green areas, creating an attractive public destination for residents and visitors throughout the year.

The successful delivery of this large-scale project required careful coordination of construction activities, engineering teams and subcontractors, as well as the execution of complex works across an extensive coastal site.

With the completion of the Žnjan Plateau redevelopment, Lavčević has made an important contribution to Split's urban transformation and the creation of one of Croatia's most attractive public waterfront spaces.

This project further demonstrates Lavčević's extensive experience, technical expertise and commitment to delivering major construction and infrastructure projects of lasting value to the community.
